After nearly 30 years of marriage, when everything was said and done, I walked away with nothing of lasting financial value. The diamond ring — the symbol that was supposed to represent love, commitment, and a future — had almost no real resale value. It couldn't pay a bill. It couldn't create security. It couldn't be passed down as wealth.
We had always planned to invest in real estate. We both believed in it. But we waited — because we knew an inheritance was coming, and we'd start buying property when that money arrived. Our divorce was finalized just before that first windfall. I walked away with nothing. After decades of working, raising children, and building a life, I was left starting over.
That moment was sharp and clarifying. And it became a mission: I will not let this happen to my daughters. I will not let this happen to my future daughter-in-law. And I will not let it happen to you.
